James Wilkinson, Manager at Printing Plus talks to us about how being involved in our Connecting Brand, Strategy and People, as part of the Peer Networks Programme through Boost, helped him and their business:

Why did you want to get involved?

Working in a small business can be quite isolating, so to join a group of likeminded business people to share knowledge and ideas was something I knew I could benefit from.

How was your experience and how has your business benefitted?

Our business has benefited as I have effectively had coaching/mentoring from not just one mentor but a group of eight! This means I have learnt to view frustrations/opportunities/ideas from many perspectives and not just my own. This results in much clearer and focussed thinking and planning.

I really enjoyed being able to get to know the group. We all came from a diverse range of backgrounds and industries which led to a real quality input throughout the sessions.

What benefits can programmes like this bring to the local and regional business and economy?

It is a great networking opportunity, listening to other people’s challenges and opportunities – some of which you have never thought of can bring light bulb moments as you learn how you can implement other people’s ideas within your own organisation.

What’s been the one best thing for you from the programme?

Knowing that I am not alone! That might sound strange! But to hear other business people experiencing similar challenges and listening to how they overcome them has really given me a boost!
