Code Cumbria – Digital Skills Bootcamp (Next Programme: 2026)

Code Cumbria is a regional digital skills bootcamp designed to prepare adults for technical roles across Cumbria. Delivered with support from Sellafield Ltd and its extensive supply chain — including Atos and AtkinsRéalis — the programme is co-designed with local employers to ensure training aligns with real industry needs.

The next delivery of Code Cumbria is planned for 2026, subject to funding approval.

Employer-Led Programme Design

In partnership with nuclear, engineering and technology employers across the region, the curriculum is shaped around the skills needed for modern technical roles in Cumbria’s workforce.

Participants gain a blend of software, data, automation, and cyber capabilities.

What the Programme Covers

Coding for Data Analytics

  • Python for analysis, scripting, and automation
  • SQL for data querying and databases
  • Working with data structures, APIs, and visualisation tools

PLC Programming & Automation

  • Introduction to PLC concepts and ladder logic
  • Industrial automation fundamentals
  • Real-world examples from engineering and nuclear contexts

Micro-Controllers & Embedded Systems

  • Hands-on experience with devices such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi
  • Sensor integration and digital/analogue I/O
  • Hardware-software interaction

Cyber Security & Networking

  • Core cyber principles and best practices
  • Networking fundamentals and secure configuration
  • Understanding risks relevant to industrial and digital environments

Practical Coding & Technical Skills

  • Problem solving, debugging, and testing
  • Software tools, version control, and collaboration
